Artist Hazal Yalim Adds A Splash of Humor To Classic Artworks, And The Internet Is Loving It

If you don’t know what a GIF is, then how on earth did you figure out how to even open this web page that you’re on?! Just kidding! For those of you who might not know: A GIF is a series of images or soundless videos that will loop continuously and don’t require anyone to press play. Basically, a GIF is a picture-turned-video, and Hazal Yalim has taken them to a whole new level.

The self-proclaimed “reimaginer” combines classical art with funny GIFs of well-known pop culture icons that create a shameless and hilarious mashup of classic and contemporary art and gives the original piece a whole new meaning. Apparently, Yalim was inspired by the film Night at the Museum, a film where inanimate figures in a museum come to life.

According to Hazal, the goal of the project is to create a sort of art gallery of the absurd with nods to earlier absurdist art movements like dada. We think his work is spectacular, a unique and funny combination of image content and GIF content that has resulted in a worldwide rush of laughter. Yalim posted his creations onto Bored Panda, where he received over 20k views. Ever since his artistic debut four years ago, people the internet over are laughing out loud at his creations.
